When the Wall Street Journal recently wrote about the upcoming Univision IPO, they selected a photo of Chef Pepín leading his famous “conga line” to depict it. This is no coincidence, as Chef Pepín is among the top Latin chefs in the US and has been a pioneer in educating the world about the rich flavors of Latin cuisine.
Chef Pepín is full of energy and his fun and approachable style has made him a household name internationally. His cooking segments on Despierta América, Univision’s morning show have been co-hosted by some of the biggest celebrities from both the big and small screen such as: Whoopi Goldberg, Bobby Flay, Jon Favreau, Roselyn Sanchez, Jared Harris and many others.
“I’m delighted to have been a part of Univision for all these years and to have entertained and educated millions of Hispanic families with the flavors of our culture and recipes inspired in our heritage,” said Chef Pepín.
In the picture above, Chef Pepín is recreating the comedic scene from the movie Chef with Jon Favreau whom wrote, directed and also starred in the film. Below, you can see him enjoying his cooking segment with Jared Harris, Olivia Cooke and Univision’s Johnny Lozada.
Univision, the top broadcaster for Spanish-speaking audiences in the US has filed for an initial public offering and is expected to be one of the biggest fillings of 2015, raising over a billion dollars. The Hispanic population in the US continues to grow in size and importance and Univision wants to capitalize in its continued growth. According to the Census Bureau, there are roughly 54 million Hispanics in the US, this constitutes about 17% of the population, making Latinos the largest ethnic group in the country.
For Chef Pepín, this means that the influence of Latin cuisine will continue to be an integral part of the American experience for years to come and he’s delighted to be a part of this chapter in American history.
